Lucent – Focus Now

A 60-second visual focus ritual before you start work. From a podcast idea to an iOS app with Replit.

Why

In January 2026, I wanted to try Replit’s new React Native build. I didn’t have an idea ready. Then a Huberman Lab episode about visual focus gave me one: turn a short exercise from a podcast into an app you could open before starting work.

The product was deliberately small. Look at a single visual target for 60 seconds, then begin the task you meant to do. I liked the idea of giving the transition into work a clear beginning, with one action and a definite end.

Lucent was also a test of what AI app-building tools could deliver at that moment. Could I go from hearing an idea to holding a working mobile app, then get it all the way through the App Store?

How

  1. Start a session with one tap.
  2. Rest your gaze on a glowing horizontal line, with flares rising and falling around it.
  3. Finish after 60 seconds and move on to your work.

No ads, no subscriptions. The exercise is inspired by the podcast’s discussion of visual attention; the app gives it a simple, repeatable form.

Replit’s Expo Go integration got a working version onto my phone in minutes. Shipping took longer: support and privacy pages, screenshots for the required device sizes, and App Store review. Lucent was still waiting for approval when I wrote about the build in January; it became available on February 18, 2026.

The experiment made the gap between generating an app and releasing one very tangible. The prototype was fast. The small details needed to put it in someone’s hands still mattered.
