Why
In June 2025, I had exciting personal news to share with friends and family scattered across countries and time zones. A message would deliver the news, but I wanted to see the instant they heard it: the surprise, the laughter, the expression before they found the words.
A video call could capture that moment if everyone was available together. I wanted a way to keep it when they weren’t. Record the announcement once, let each person watch when they can, and receive their first reaction back.
By then, AI tools had shortened the distance between an idea and a working web app enough for me to try it in a few hours. EmotioNews went from that personal wish to a launched first version in about seven hours.
How
- Record a short announcement: a 15-second video, with a personal message alongside it.
- Share the link with the people you want to tell.
- They allow camera access and watch: their reaction is recorded as they see your news.
- Receive an email with a link to the reaction, so you can watch that first moment too.
Imagine telling your parents they’re going to be grandparents. They can open the link on the other side of the world, and you can still see the gasps and happy tears. The recording keeps a moment that would otherwise disappear into a message thread.
For the first build, I used Gemini and GPT to create the icon, Lovable for the initial design, and Cursor to implement the flows, then deployed it on Cloudflare. The seven-hour launch was an experiment in how quickly I could turn a very specific emotional need into something people could use. The part that matters is what it preserves: the people you love hearing your news for the first time.
